Then, take screenshots of the ones you like best and post them as a collection to another form of social media for your followers there to see. It’s a great way to show customers’ satisfaction with your work to potential clients, it keeps you connected with your clientele, and it makes fans feel included. In those three ways alone, Instagram is a marketing home run.
  • Understand that Instagram isn’t the same as Facebook or Twitter. It’s important to note that the same marketing strategies that work on those platforms won’t necessarily translate well to Instagram – and that’s okay. The usual approach to marketing is to reinforce your brand constantly so that your audience sees your business as you’d like them to. But with Instagram, you can’t really do that – if every post on your account carries an identical message, your audience will lose interest. The key here is that your marketing strategies must change with every message. Let your brand evolve through each Instagram post, and let that evolution give your audience a reason to keep an eye out for your updates.
  • Be authentic. Sophisticated, glossy, corporate marketing has no place on Instagram – and that’s a good thing. As consumers, your clients are already immune to the constant influx of highly structured and staged marketing ploys they see everyday. Use Instagram as a way to help your audience see the “realness” that makes your business work, and you won’t need any fancy marketing schemes. 
  • Remember that it's all in your hands. Instagram is unique in that its interface virtually encourages a higher level of intimacy with your audience. Unlike Facebook or Twitter, where many businesses post relevant articles or industry news, Instagram is more effective with personal, behind-the-scenes updates. More and more small business owners are making the move to social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter – but if you don’t know how to use them properly, you may be hurting your tax business instead of helping it. Here are a few social media marketing laws that every company should follow:

  •          Don’t ignore comments or messages. It sounds basic, but replying to comments, messages, or questions you receive on social media is one of the easiest ways you can establish your business as customer-friendly. Being involved with what your customers post on your social media or about your business shows you’re willing to listen to comments, address concerns, accept compliments, and in general show that you care. Don’t hesitate to address negative comments, either – handling these with grace will only speak to your dedication to customer service and set your business further apart from your competition.
  •          Don’t try to appeal to everyone, everywhere. Even though it sounds counterintuitive, widening your net too much – either in terms of the kind of content you post or the number of social media accounts you’re active on – won’t help your business. It’ll just dilute your message and make it that much more difficult for potential customers to connect with what you’re posting. Instead, create a well-focused strategy that’ll help you build your brand and connect with your target audience. If posting on five different social media platforms is watering your message down, limit yourself to two or three for now. Concentrate on sharing and creating quality content that your followers will benefit from seeing, instead of trying to force your material into every corner of the Internet.   
  •  Know when to share. If you’re active on social media but still aren’t reaching the kind of audience you’re after, there could be a reason. Research has found that different social media platforms hit peak traffic at different times of the day – meaning you shouldn’t necessarily share to Facebook at the same time you’re sharing on Twitter, and so on. Taking into account details such as comments, reposts, and likes, researchers found that 1-3 PM is the optimal time to post on Twitter, 1-4 PM is perfect for Facebook activity, and 5-6 PM is best for businesses on Instagram. Knowing when your audience is most active on social media will help you to get your business and your posts in front of as many eyes as possible.
  •         Value quality over quantity. While posting consistently is important to building your brand on social media, no one wants to open Facebook or Twitter to find that you’ve spammed their newsfeeds with meaningless retweets or pointless posts. In fact, there are probably few things that will get you unfollowed faster. Take care with what you post and share and always ask, “How will this benefit my audience?” If you can name at least two ways in which the content will help your followers, it’s post-worthy. If not, maybe reconsider. Posting and sharing on social media shouldn’t take hours, but it does deserve some concentrated effort in order for your accounts to gain followers and encourage activity.

For many business owners, managing a company Facebook page may seem like a daunting task – but it doesn’t have to be. Check out our top tips to help Facebook newbies get started:


  • Limit who can post on your wall. Allowing people to post on your wall is a double-edged sword. The positive posts are obviously great – happy customers are one of your best bets for converting other prospects, after all.  But the negative posts are a little less thrilling. Consider enabling the post moderation feature so you can review posts before allowing them to go on your wall. That way, satisfied clients can still sing your praises, and you can contact the less satisfied customer privately to work out the issue.

           HOW? At the top of your business’ page, go to “Settings,” then “General,” and click on “Visitor Posts” for options.

  • Use the “Scheduled Posts” feature. This is particularly useful for business owners who have packed schedules and not a lot of time to run their page. The “Scheduled Posts” feature will let you set up posts that’ll publish in the future – what time and what day exactly are up to you. For example, you can set up your page to post once a day every week, twice a day three times a week, or whenever you like – all you have to do is create the post first and set specifications for date and time.

         HOW? At the top of your business’ page, go to “Publishing Tools,” “Scheduled Posts,” and “Create.” When you’re done creating your post, click “Schedule,” and set the date and time you’d like the post to publish.

  • Make sure your “Page Info” is complete. Nothing looks more unprofessional than a business whose “Page Info” section is blank. This section gives your audience all the useful information about your company – address, hours, phone number, email, website, and even things like “Mission” and “Awards.” Fill in your information as thoroughly as you can so that your clients (and potential clients) can get the most accurate picture of your business and can reach out to you when they need you.

          HOW? At the top of your business’ page, go to “Settings,” then “Page Info.” This will take you to your “Overview” section, where you can fill out your address, phone number, hours, website, and a brief description. Click “Page Info” next to provide more detailed information, including “Mission” and “Products.”

  •             Update your “Notification” settings. You can’t respond to messages, comments, posts, or mentions if you don’t know you’ve received them. You can change your settings so that you’re alerted to activity either by email or text (or neither). You’ll still be notified on Facebook.

          HOW? At the top of your business’ page, go to “Settings,” then “Notifications."
